Iowa man gets 50 years for crash that killed 2

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) — A Marshalltown man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison in connection to a deadly car crash last year that killed two of his passengers, including a 4-month-old boy.

The Marshalltown Times-Republican reports (http://bit.ly/1avrn6U ) a tearful 23-year-old Armando Chavarria received the sentence Monday. He pleaded guilty in October to two counts of vehicular homicide and other charges.

Chavarria was driving an SUV in the early morning hours of Nov. 1, 2012. The car was carrying several people, and Chavarria later admitted to drinking several shots of tequila before the crash.

The car flipped on its side and killed 20-year-old Chendo Quezada and 4-month-old Dylan Quezada. Two others sustained serious injuries. Authorities say Chavarria’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit at the time of the crash.
