CENTRAL CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa environmental regulators are investigating a manure leak from a dairy farm in eastern Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says an unknown amount of manure leaked into a tributary of the Wapsipinicon River from Dairy Venture, a farm located southeast of Central City in Linn County.
The manure traveled down the tributary on Tuesday afternoon but most was stopped by a dam the dairy operator had built in the creek. Much of the manure was pumped out and spread on a farm field.
The DNR says about 20 dead minnows were observed in the tributary and a fisheries biologist has been assigned to investigate the fish kill. Some manure is believed to have flowed into the Wapsipinicon.
The DNR will monitor the clean-up and consider appropriate enforcement action.
