Iowa authorities: 2 attacked good Samaritan

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) — Authorities are looking for two people suspected of attacking a motorist who stopped to help them on a road near Marshalltown.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office says Stephanie Phelps pulled over next to a car Nov. 29 when she saw a stranded driver and passenger. She told authorities she was going to help push the vehicle off the road.

Authorities say the male passenger got out of the car and assaulted Phelps. He and the female driver allegedly stole Phelps’ Christmas presents and left her unconscious by her car.

Two people traveling on the road found Phelps. She was taken to a hospital and released.

Chief Deputy Burt Tecklenburg tells Des Moines television station KCCI (http://bit.ly/1gcFHtf ) that potential good Samaritans need to use judgment when responding to similar situations.
