Crews continue search for man who fell through ice

MONTEZUMA, Iowa (AP) — Crews plan to renew a search for a man who fell through the ice of Lake Ponderosa in Poweshiek County.

Montezuma Fire Chief Chris Widmer says the man had been fishing on the lake Saturday. A Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office official says he was riding an all-terrain vehicle when he fell through the ice.

Someone called 911 to report the accident about 6:30 p.m.

Authorities haven’t identified the man.

Dive teams were called to the lake Saturday night, but searching was difficult with temperatures in the teens.

The search will resume Sunday morning.
