Iowa suburb chooses Virginia man as police chief

NORWALK, Iowa (AP) — The Des Moines suburb of Norwalk has chosen a Virginia man as its new police chief.

Norwalk’s mayor and mayor-elect announced Monday that officials had selected Greg Staples, of Roanoke, Va., as police chief for the 9,000 person suburb.

Staples has been working as captain of the Roanoke police department’s services division. He has 24 years of experience in law enforcement.

The Norwalk City Council will confirm Staples’ appointment at a Jan. 2 meeting. He plans to begin his new job Feb. 3.
