DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A jury is now considering a first-degree murder charge against an Ankeny man whose previous murder conviction was overturned by the Iowa Court of Appeals.
The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/1fzwkkv ) the case against 66-year-old Vernon Huser was given to the Polk County jury Monday afternoon following several hours of closing arguments.
Huser was convicted of first-degree murder in 2010 in the death of his ex-wife’s lover, Lance Morningstar. Huser was accused of helping Louis Woolheater plan to kill Morningstar, whose body was found in 2005.
The Iowa Court of Appeals granted Huser a new trial in 2011 due to hearsay evidence admitted at the first trial.
Woolheater was convicted of first-degree murder in 2010 and is serving a life sentence.
