Police: Iowa City man set own garage on fire

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa City man faces charges after police say he set his own garage on fire and lied about an attack.

Iowa City police say 33-year-old Kevin R. Grifhorst told authorities an unknown man with a knife assaulted him in early November and set his garage on fire. Investigators later determined Grifhorst started the fire and lied about the attack. The blaze damaged his garage and car.

Grifhorst is also accused of falsely reporting to police in October that $48,000 worth of merchandise was stolen from a trailer near his home.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says (http://icp-c.com/1emKDf8 ) Grifhorst has been charged with two counts of providing false reports to law enforcement authorities. He also faces a count of reckless use of fire. Court records do not list an attorney.
