BCA will probe police misconduct in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minneapolis police chief says the state will handle any investigation into police misconduct in her department.

Chief Janee Harteau (HAR’-toh) sent a memo to her officers this week announcing the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will take over the department’s most serious internal investigations.

KSTP-TV (http://bit.ly/1i1FFVB ) reports Harteau wrote that she has “full confidence” in her department’s investigators, “but unfortunately, the public does not share this view.”

The BCA will now handle certain internal MPD investigations, including an officer’s use of a firearm when a person is injured or when an officer uses force that causes death or great bodily harm, or when the chief deems it necessary.
