Des Moines suburb approves limiting pets

PLEASANT HILL, Iowa (AP) — A Des Moines suburb has approved a measure to limit the number of pets residents can have at one time.

The Des Moines Register says ( ) the Pleasant Hill City Council approved the measure Tuesday. It puts the maximum number of pets at four cats or dogs or any combination of the two. Licensed kennels and pet shops are exempt from the ordinance.

City officials also included a grandfather clause so people with more than four pets can keep animals they already have, as long as they are properly licensed. Any person wanting to take advantage of the grandfather clause must register their pets by 4:30 p.m. Dec. 31.
