IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Deputy Iowa Attorney General Thomas H. Miller says investigators have obtained more information about a winning lottery ticket at the center of an investigation into attempted fraud.
Miller said Monday that investigators within the last week “obtained some additional substantive information” about the history of the $14.3 million Hot Lotto ticket claimed in December 2011.
He says investigators are learning more about the parties involved in transactions that took place between when it was purchased at a Des Moines gas station in 2010 until it was claimed hours before the one-year deadline.
A New York attorney claimed the prize on behalf of a trust, but withdrew the claim after refusing to specify who purchased and owned the ticket.
Miller says investigators have another year before the statute of limitations expires.
