MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — More than 400 people shared ham, potatoes, corn, pie and other tempting offerings at the annual Christmas Day Community Dinner in Mason City.
The event rotates between various Mason City churches each year. This year’s meal was held at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Joan Escher was glad for the help. She told the Mason City Globe Gazette (http://bit.ly/1iiTNtB ) that she’d decided to let someone else cook for her Wednesday. Her husband, Vaughn Escher, says they went to the 10 o’clock service and decided to stay for the lunch.
Kim Pang was volunteering with his two children, 5-year-old Samantha and 11-year-old Blake. They were busy filling carryout orders.
Kim Pang says “we thought we’d get an early start on giving back to the community.”
