DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Dubuque’s fire chief says he will retire after 18 years on the job.
E. Daniel Brown announced Monday that he will retire in August after serving as fire chief since 1996. He started with the city as a firefighter in 1982 and earned a series of promotions.
As chief, the city says Brown has overseen the transition to a countywide public safety radio system, the development of an outdoor warning system, the construction of a regional emergency responder training center and many other major projects.
Brown says he’s also focused on providing more training and better equipment and installing smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in homes.
The city says it will start the recruitment process to hire a replacement for Brown next month.
