IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Public school students in Iowa City may have to introduce themselves again to their teachers.
That’s because cancellations Monday and Tuesday due to the subzero temperatures mean it’s been 18 days since the students attended school.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (http://icp-c.com/1dQ9pBo ) students in the Iowa City Community School District were last in class Dec. 20 before leaving for Christmas vacation. They were scheduled to return Monday, when classes were cancelled.
Superintendent Steve Murley said officials had little choice, given how dangerous it would be for students waiting outside for buses.
The last day of school had been scheduled for May 30 but now will be extended to June 3 to make up for the lost days.
