DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Des Moines police have investigated seven home invasions this year, a much busier pace than in 2013 when 11 such incidents occurred in the entire year.
Police tell The Des Moines Register (http://dmreg.co/1dB8lDm ) the home invasions don’t appear to be connected.
In most cases, the victims knew the people who forced their way inside their homes. Police say that at least seven of the 18 home invasions that occurred since Jan. 1, 2013, were drug related.
Police Sgt. Jason Halifax says most home invasions aren’t random, and assailants usually are seeking something specific.
Police think the spike in home invasions is a coincidence and not the beginning of a trend.
Halifax says “we don’t believe it’s a burgeoning crime wave.”
