Information board considers making video public

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Public Information Board will decide whether to make a video public that shows the alleged mistreatment of a teenager at a state juvenile facility.

The Des Moines Register reports (http://dmreg.co/1dBPw2W ) the board went into a private meeting Thursday to watch the video.

The board will decide whether to make the video public on Feb. 20.

The Register filed a complaint with the board after state human services administrators denied a request for a copy of the video, which has been described as showing workers at the Iowa Juvenile Home dragging a girl to an isolation cell. Officials contend the video can kept private because it involves treatment of an individual and is part of an ongoing criminal case.

Board Executive Director Keith Luchtel recommends keeping the video private.
