WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A Mediacom network malfunction left thousands without Internet and phone service for most of the day Saturday in Iowa and two other states.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1mw2ZLX) about 10,000 subscribers in Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Clinton and Dubuque and areas of Missouri and Minnesota lost service beginning around 8:30 a.m. Service was restored by mid-afternoon, but some Waterloo customers lost service again Saturday evening. It was restored early Sunday.
Mediacom communications director Phyllis Peters says an equipment malfunction at the company’s Des Moines-based data center caused the area network to be compromised. The problem then resurfaced for some subscribers when the company began routine work for network expansion in the Waterloo area.
Peters says Mediacom will handle customer concerns on a case-by-case basis.
