The Mason City Kmart will be closing its doors for the last time in April.
According to Sears Holdings, which owns Kmart, the closing is expected to happen in late April. Howard Riefs, director of corporate communications, says the store’s liquidation sale will begin on Feburary 9th.
As for the 49 employees, Riefs says they will be offered severance and can apply to open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.
Riefs says the store closure is “part of a series of actions we’re taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model.”
