A north Iowa man, who has complained about his public defender, will now be getting a new counsel in his murder trial.
Tyrone Washington Jr. is facing first-degree murder charges in the stabbing death of Northwood native Justina Smith. She died in August of 2013.
Washington had complained to the court about his appointed public defender Sue Flander many times. He even filed a motion to get a new defender and possibly represent himself. Now, according to court documents, Flander and her office have now withdrawn themselves from the case.
In the document, it states that it’s clear Washington and Flander can’t work together. The court will now have to appoint a new defender for Washington.
