KIMT News 3 – Federal officials are working to confiscate a machine gun taken from a north Iowa dealer.
According to court documents filed this week, a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms investigator examined Darrin Bunston’s firearms in May of 2012. Bunston is a licensed firearms dealer in Ionia. The investigator seized a 9mm Uzi that they describe as “altered in that it lacked a safe switch and appeared to function as a machine gun,” meeting the federal definition of “machine gun.”
The ATF seized the weapon, which Bunston attempted to get back in November of 2012. This week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office filed a complaint in federal court asking them to be allowed to condemn the weapon.
