ClearLake is hopping tonight for the annual Winter Dance Party
And for a few folks this party could be considering this their wedding reception.
That’s because earlier today several couple renewed their wedding vows here at the surf.
Year after year folks travel from all corners of the globe to make memories here at the Surf Ballroom.
But Laura and Steve Wilson return year after year for another reason, to renew their wedding vows.
“It’s just a special place it’s historic there’s atmosphere the people are so nice, it’s just wonderful we meet a lot of nice people here,” says the Wilsons.
The couple, who have been married for 26 years joined 6 others in a vow renewal ceremony officiated by Clear Lake Police Chief Greg Peterson.
“Back when these songs were written, these people were young and listening was about the time they were proposing to their wives and they were getting g married so I think this brings back a lot of happy memories for people to do their re-commitment here at the surf,” says Chief Peterson.
After exchanging vows and rings the couples were serenaded by the 1950s legend Jimmy Clanton.
It was an extra special anniversary for Faribault Jim and Patti, as this year they celebrate 50 years of marriage at the Surf.
Nearly 20 years ago, the couple caught KIMT News 3’s Winter Dance Party coverage and decided they wouldn’t miss another one.
