In order to do this right, I had to call in some professionals.
Meet Dave and Eileen Parsons, the dynamic dancing duo from across the pond…that means England
Dancing, in my opinion, is one of the sneakiest workouts around, because you’re constantly moving and keeping that heart rate up, but it’s so much fun, it doesn’t feel like it should count.
Dave and Eileen said, “It’s better really than going to an exercise class because you’ve got the music. We’re not sitting at home watching TV all the time, you can go out and socialize and it keeps your legs active…your whole body really.”
First, these guys treated me to a little jive and rock and roll show.
As you can see there’s a fair bit of footwork and technique that goes into this dance.
Dave and Eileen said, “It’s always good for fitness, keeps you active, uses all your muscles in your body… the steps are good.”
And then it was my turn to work the dance floor. This is what’s called British Stroll.
It’s all about the 2 step. 2 to the left, 2 to the right, back, forward, then always turn on the left leg, and repeat.
Sounds simple enough, but of course, we’re not all perfect.
Not only is this a fun way to stay active, but it can turn into a social experience.
Dave and Eileen go out to different ballroom bands once a week where they dance for more than four hours.
They said, “We have to take a break in between of course, but we dance as much as we can during the evening and at the end of the night, we know we’ve done enough.”
And that right there is proof that busting a move can keep you feeling young, happy, and healthy.
