MASON CITY, Iowa – A Mason City man charged with attempted murder is now asking for the medical records of his alleged victim.
41-year-old, Frederick Olson is preparing to stand trial in March but before doing so, his defense counsel believes medical records from that August day will prove this was an act of self-defense.
While prosecutors believe the information from doctors should be enough, Judge Rustin Davenport says there is no harm in providing more detailed records.
According to the victim, Ricky Roby of Mason City and his wife, the wounds were so severe that Roby’s intestines were exposed.
Olson says that this could not have been the case since Roby approached him first, armed with a knife.
Olson also faces charges of first-degree burglary and interference with official acts.
