Fasting for immigration reform

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Immigration is still an issue being debated in Washington, and locally, activists are taking a dramatic step to call attention to it.
More than 30 people are fasting throughout the month in Rochester.  They say they support immigration reform and want to show lawmakers the importance of the issue.
“This is just part of our organizing effort for us to say this is incredibly important to the community,” Community Member Nadia Anguiano-Wehde said. “We’re coming together to do things like this and marches and calling our representatives essentially to keep the pressure on to say this is very important to our community.”
Organizers say people who signed up will take turns fasting for 24 hours.
