MASON CITY, Iowa – A local city council is sharing the results of an ordinance they passed last year involving nuisance properties.
Those on the Mason City City Council are letting those in the community know how it’s all been working out.
The ordinance means property owners are being held responsible for multiple offenses on their property or within 1,500 feet of it.
But the owners are warned they need to fix the problem.
Captain Mike McKelvey, with the Mason City Police Department, says so far, so good.
“The main thing we hear is from the residents. They’re happy to see something done sooner to those little quality of life issues that are occurring in their neighborhoods in them,” said McKelvey.
McKelvey says many of the complaints have been noise or animal violations.
No arrests or permits have been revoked.
