Charles City receives EPA award

CHARLES CITY, Iowa – The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the Charles City community with the 2013 “National Award for Smart Growth Achievement”.
It’s for Riverfront Park, and the whitewater course.
Charles City was recognized as the winner in the plazas, parks and public places category.
The EPA is commending the community for using the river’s natural features to prevent future flooding.
The agency says, Riverfront Park is a model of how to use flooded properties to create a sustainable and economically valuable amenity.
The community will be recognized at a ceremony Wednesday.
