Franklin Co. kidnapping conviction upheld

FRANKLIN CO., Iowa – One of Iowa’s highest courts is denying the appeal of a local man convicted for kidnapping and burglary.

Authorities say Larry White, of Alden, kidnapped his estranged wife and held her captive for three hours at gunpoint in 2001.  The Iowa Supreme Court called the case a “bone-chilling ordeal of life-threatening intimidation.” He was sentenced to life in prison in 2002.

In his postconviction relief White claimed his sentence of life without parole was cruel and unusual punishment.
