Searching for the “Farm Family of the Year”

FARM FAMILY OF THE YEAR

ALBERT LEA, Minn. — While many farmers are celebrating the passage of the Farm Bill, a local community is looking to celebrate their agricultural heritage.
The Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for “Farm Family of the Year.”
The award is also sponsored by the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
The award honors a farm family not only for their work in the field, but their work in the community as well.
Local leaders say it gives them a chance to celebrate and remember their agriculture roots.
“We have the ethanol plant; we have REG’s soy diesel facility,” Chamber Executive Director Randy Kehr said. “We have all the implement dealers, we are still rooted in agriculture and we like being rooted in agriculture. It’s a great way for us to celebrate those roots.”
