Finding a match

ROCHESTER, Minn. — It was five days ago we introduced you to Lacey McClain, who is in need of a bone marrow transplant.
And this afternoon, folks were signing up, looking to help her and others diagnosed with a blood cancer.
Students with the University of Minnesota-Rochester, along with, “Be The Match”, ran a bone marrow donor registry drive today.
They hope it will match a donor with a patient and be a lifesaving event.
“70 percent of them don’t have a match in their family and we’re hoping that we can create this registry, that we can connect these patients to these live saving bone marrow donors,” UMR Team Leader Nicki Schumacher said.
She adds it’s rare to find a match for a patient.
But, by getting more people signed up, they hope to increase the chances of matching up a patient and a donor.
