Work continues on flood project

AUSTIN, Minn. — The cold temperatures aren’t putting a freeze on construction work in Austin.
Workers are continuing on the city’s North Main Flood Project this week.
It consists of a road raise, flood wall, and beam construction, which will help protect businesses in the area from potential floods.
City officials say they should know over the next few weeks if things will be delayed or not due to weather.
“They’ve made good headway and I anticipate in the next week or so with the warmer temperatures we’ll really see how quick things are able to go at that time and then get estimation from there on where they are at with the project,” City Engineer Steven Lang said.
Currently, he says crews are installing support beams and the footing section of the flood wall, which they hope to have done by the spring.
