Helping fight hunger

KIMT NEWS 3 — A local food giant is doing its part to help stamp out hunger.
Hormel Foods announced today they donated more than six million dollars in cash and product during the fiscal year in 2013.
It’s part of the companies “On Our Way to Ending Hunger” program, which just wrapped up its third year.
Local leaders at the Salvation Army in Albert Lea says for them, area companies play a big role in helping them reach out to help those in need.
“All the communities that partner with the Salvation Army are just great assets to have help fight hunger,” Albert Lea Salvation Army Captain Jim Brickson said. “I really don’t think the Salvation Army could touch as many people as they do. Hunger solutions, just so many places that are so good to us.”
He says last year alone, the Salvation Army served almost a half million people in Minnesota and North Dakota.
