Learning Outdoors

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - Before the misery of the blizzard arrives, let’s take a moment to appreciate some of the positives of winter.

A class of fourth graders from Clear Creek Elementary went out for some fun and learning.

This isn’t recess, its class time.

Tuesday’s lesson?

How to build a six-foot fort, the right way.

Teachers call it an “Authentic Intellectual Work project”, and a great experience.

“I think seeing the kids work together and really communicating and getting along well with one another. We have a great system here and a lot of support and its just been a fun day,” said Melanie Merrel.

A worker from Dean Snyder Construction will be stopping by to assess the structures and give some feedback.
