Officials in charge of evacuating the town of Northwood are calling the efforts a success.
Emergency Management coordinators along with cert members and Red Cross officials all worked to make about 2,200 people found shelter yesterday.
The KensettCommunity Center, was one of the designated evacuation areas.
The Cerro Gordo County Emergency Management Coordinator Steve O’Neil says he’s never experienced anything like it in his career.
“We’ve done some neighborhoods, maybe a building so when ray said it could be up to 2200 people it def. kind of raided the level a little but again you just treat it like anything else,” he says.
The efforts could not have been possible without the cooperation of the communities of Kensett and Northwood.
