Stun gun bill moves forward

DES MOINES, Iowa – Stun gun training is moving forward at the Iowa Legislature.

The state senate unanimously approved a bill to require all law enforcement officers go through standardized training before being allowed to use a stun gun. Under the bill, the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy would establish a safety course.

Local agencies would also be required to conduct an annual review of stun gun use. Currently, there is no across-the-board training for these devices.
