Railroad worker injured after being pinned under train car

KOSSUTH COUNTY, Iowa – A railroad worker was taken for emergency treatment after being trapped under a rail car Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, responders were called at 4:27 a.m. to an area near Ag Processing Inc. east of Algona.  A railroad employee had fallen under a train car and was pinned.  He was taken by ambulance to Kossuth Regional Health Center and then transported by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa.

Officials say rescue efforts were hampered by snow and a lack of accessibility to the accident location.
