CHARLES CITY, Iowa – After more than a year of debate, the Charles City School Board is set to make a decision on the future of the district’s middle school.
This issue has seen a lot of back-and-forth in town. Initially, the school board voted unanimously to build an addition onto the current high school, creating a single campus for kids in grades six through 12.
But, then came elections, and several new board members who scrapped those plans, and started fresh.
Now, they’re considering either renovating the current middle school building, or building a new one.
The school board is expected to make a final decision tonight. It will require a voter referendum, asking homeowners for an increase in property taxes.
