NIACC Women to National Tourney

 

FORT DODGE - The NIACC women’s basketball team is heading back to the national tournament.

Top-ranked NIACC edged No. 9 Iowa Central 96-92 in the NJCAA Region XI final Saturday afternoon on the Iowa Central campus to qualify for the national tournament for the first time in 20 years.

NIACC (31-2) was led by tournament MVP Chelsey Jacox, who scored 41 points. The Lady Trojans also received 12 points from Cortni Rush and 11 apiece from 11 points and Sierra Ford-Washington.
Jacox became NIACC’s all-time leading scorer with 1,098 career points. She entered Saturday’s title game tied with Jennifer Currier (1986-88) with 1,057 career points.
Notes: NIACC coach Kelli Terrell has a career record of 61-34 … Terrell is 3-5 all-time against Iowa Central … Thompson has 824 career points … Kadejah Young has 554 career points and 94 career 3-point goals … Rush has 458 career points with 76 3-point goals …
