MASON CITY, Iowa – A local dog is recovering at an area humane society after being abandoned and apparently shot.
She’s one tough dog after being found in an abandoned home in Floyd County.
Three other dogs were found to have been living in the same home, but two were found dead, and one is missing.
Serenity came in with a bullet wound that was infected, severely dehydrated, and could barely walk.
But now she’s slowly recovering thanks to love here at the Humane Society of North Iowa and antibiotics of course.
“This is one is sad to me because these are four animals that were left to fend for themselves just out in the yard of this house. There was no fresh water, there apparently wasn’t food. So it’s very sad to us these animals were just left on their own and abandoned,” said Sybil Soukup, Director of the Humane Society.
Serenity is still very scared around other people at this time.
Soukup says she will hopefully be ready for adoption in the next week or two.
