MASON CITY, IA – One local organization is looking for volunteers to help man’s best friend enjoy the weather.
The Humane Society of North Iowa is always looking for dog walkers. Many dogs are looking for their forever home, but in the meantime they still need exercise.
The director points out the dogs are not the only ones benefiting from this type of volunteer work.
“It keeps our animals socialized, which makes them more adoptable for when their forever home does come into our shelter. It’s good for citizens and volunteers that come out, you can burn up to 200 calories an hour just walking a dog and it’s just very gratifying to be able to give back to your community and this way by volunteering at the shelter and by helping animal in need,” says Director Sybil Soukup.
