Airport proposals turned down

MASON CITY,  Iowa – The Mason City Municipal Airport is turning down two proposals that would have brought an airline to the airport.

During a special meeting Wednesday the airport commission reviewed proposals from great lake services and air choice one.

But the board is saying no to both offers, adding that Great Lakes is unreliable and Air Choice One would prevent them from expanding to larger planes.

Gary Wattnem, Airport Commissioner, tell us they’re hopeful they will receive new proposals from some other air carriers.

“Us not getting enough seats here to fulfill our annual requirements to get our entitlement that was my main concern,” said Wattnem.

Wattnem tells us, the next step is to put in a request to the DOT and ask for new air carrier proposals.

That request will be sent immediately.
