Ever since it got started, the North Iowa Commuter Express has given 3,367 rides to folks in our area.
The transit busses bring people from Mason City to their jobs in Forest City every day.
Having the rides to and from work has meant the difference in having a job or not for many families in our area.
Those who ride the bus say it’s much more affordable than it would be to take their own vehicle.
“When we look at transit that you only have to pay $2.50 to get from Mason City to Forest City, that’s a substantial savings for low-income families to be able to pay their bills to be able to have other resources in their households,” says Jennifer Kammeyer with The United Way of North Central Iowa.
Due to demand from some other business in north Iowa – the United Way is working on getting some legislation through that would provide funding for more transits in the area.
