CLEAR LAKE, Iowa - A local boy had a very special birthday wish this year.
5 year-old Dean Perry from Mason City asked that instead of people giving him presents, that friends and family would give donations to an organization called “My Happy Place.”
This non-profit organization out of Mason City re-makes bedrooms for sick or grieving children.
Co-founder Deidra Rattay says that she was shocked when she heard about Dean’s donation project knew that she needed to do something special with his earnings.
Perry managed to raise more than $1,050 for one of their projects and Rattay made him the official sponsor of one of their upcoming projects.
At a fundraiser for the organization on Saturday, organizers set up for Dean to meet 5 year-old Noah, a boy who has an aggressive type of autism causing him to not be able to speak.
Perry will be helping with the construction and transformation of Noah’s room and will also be the one to surprise Noah once the project is complete.
Construction is expected to begin on the project sometime in May.
