One in three children in the U.S. are considered obese, it’s a staggering statistic that a local fitness center is hoping to change in our area.
For the 24th year in a row the Austin YMCA is hosting Healthy Kids Day.
The hope is to inspire kids to keep their minds and bodies active.
Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative to improve family’s health and well being.
The Austin Y’s staff say now is a perfect time to instill healthy habits in children.
“Actually when kids go into summertime they are almost less active because they are not at school moving around in the classroom and going to different activities in the school, so a lot of times you find them spending more time sitting when they’re at home,” says Fitness Director Kristi Stasi.
Kids got to take part in some activities and games, but also learned about healthy snack ideas and arts and crafts to motivate them to keep moving.
