President Signs Emergency Propane Act

KIMT NEWS 3 – Propane is used for heating in over 12 million households across the  U.S. If you are one of those who have been impacted by the shortage this winter, help is here.

The President has signed the “Home Heating Emergency Assistance Through Transportation” Act or HHEATT Act.

Minnesota Representative Tim Walz partnered with transportation officials to work out a piece of legislation in an effort to continue providing emergency relief to the ongoing shortage. The HHEATT Act will ensure that fuel supplies are being delivered to customers as fast as possible.

“With this being the coldest winter we’ve seen in decades, we need to be sure folks have an affordable supply of propane to heat their homes for as long as necessary,” says Walz.

Under this legislation, the U.S. Department of Transportation is temporarily allowing truck drivers , who are hauling home heating fuels, to drive longer hours to meet the emergency needs.

The Act will remain in effect until May 31st or until the Secretary of Transportation determines it’s no longer necessary.
