MASON CITY, Iowa – Everyone needs someone on their side, right?
Now, you have a chance to be a voice for senior citizens.
These men and women are being trained as volunteers.
It’s part of a partnership between the Retired Senior Volunteer Program or RSVP of North Central Iowa.
Along with the Volunteer Ombudsman Program.
The goal is to have volunteers walk into nursing home and residential care facilities unannounced to check on the residents of those places.
“Senior citizens have been a valuable part of building America so its time for us to give back to them,” said John Bryan from Leland, Iowa.
The volunteers will train for eight hours in the classroom and then will be assigned a specific facility in their community.
They are responsible for finding and resolving resident concerns.
The Iowa legislature provides the funding for this volunteer program.
