MASON CITY, IA – The 2014 North Iowa Band Festival honorees have been announced.
This year Governor Terry Branstad will be in attendance as he has been named this year’s Grand Marshall.
And one local man is receiving the Klempnaur award. The award honors an unsung hero behind the scenes and this year it is going to Chris Frenz.
Frenz has been involved with the North Iowa Band Festival for more than 18 years.
It is much more than an event to him as it has been a family tradition since he was young.
Frenz serves on the entertainment sub committee and as the emcee for the awards and coronation ceremony.
He is humbled to be receiving this award.
“It was very surprising and very humbling and it’s a nice award to get and one that I certainly don’t take lightly. There’s a lot behind that Klempnaur name and how important he is to the whole band festival scene so yeah, it’s really neat and I’m very honored to be chosen,” says Frenz.
Currently, Frenz works in administration at NIACC and coaches the men and women’s golf teams.
