CHARLES CITY, IA - To see a high quality stage show, you don’t have to go to Broadway, but you might think you have to go as far as Des Moines or Minneapolis.
Well, thanks to one local man, a well known acting group is performing in Charles City.
The National Players are the longest running acting company. They perform across the U.S. but they are not easy to get, or cheap.
In fact, it took several months of fundraising and community support led by a teacher, Robert Pittman, and in the end it was all worth it.
“They got to experience something they have never seen before, for the students who are in the drama, I wanted them to get some real life experimental learning to see different things, how somebody would do it as if they made it their job and you know and also I just wanted to provide our community something that we haven’t had in the ten years I’ve lived here,” says Pittman.
On Wednesday, the performers held a workshop for the drama students and that night they performed Macbeth for the community. Pittman says they had a good turnout and raised close to $1,000 for the Charles City High School drama and speech groups.
