Bicycle safety

Each year in Minnesota, about 10 bicyclists are killed in crashes with vehicles. As the weather warms up, we’ll soon start seeing more bikes out on the roads.

Authorities want to remind motorists to share the road with bicyclists.
Cyclists are also encouraged to pay attention to their surroundings and to wear the proper safety gear.

“Definitely a helmet, you want to be wearing that. If you can wear something bright that makes you more visible to help drivers see you, that helps. Definitely at night, you want to have lights in front and read,” said Chad Burma, Store Manager of Rydjor Bike Shop in Austin.

Another tip: Make sure your bike is properly maintained. Get your tires and brakes check before you ride.
