Local boy goes to state geography bee

MASON CITY, IA – One local seventh grader is representing his school in the state geography bee, and it isn’t his first go at it.

Stephen Ringo is in 7th grade at Newman Catholic School and knows his world geography.

It’s his second time going to state and this year he is hoping to make it to the national event.

He tells us what it takes to get to this level of the competition.

“First there was like a couple school rounds then you had to win school round to make it to state qualifying and then obviously if you do good on that you go to state,” says Ringo.

This year state is taking place at UNI in Cedar Falls.
