MASON CITY, Iowa – It was quite the scene on a Mason City street on Saturday, where emergency vehicles lined the area and residents were evacuated from a downtown apartment building.
The call came in just before 9:00pm of a small kitchen fire at 1st Street Northeast and Pennsylvania Avenue. The Mason City Fire Department and EMT crews responded to the scene. After investigating the call, crews confirmed that there were no flames but said that even smoke and an alarm were cause to evacuate such a populated building.
“My attack crew went in and they got to the apartment and it was burnt food, no fire or nothing like that, so they just propped open the door and propped open some windows and we set up what’s called a smoke ejector and forced the bad smoke out of the hallway and out to the outside,” said Captain Jack Odegaard with the Mason City Fire Department.
No injuries have been reported.
