App created to give drivers advice when pulled over for drunk driving

There’s a new app available for your smart phone that gives drivers advice when they’re pulled over for drunk driving.

It’s called the “Oh Crap App” and it was created by two Iowa attorneys.

The app includes an “emergency button” for the driver to push if they’re pulled over; the feature activates a voice recorder so any communication with law enforcement is documented.

It also includes blood alcohol content calculator and tips to avoid a DUI.

We spoke with a north iowa sheriff to see what law enforcement thinks of these kinds of apps.

“I don’t know a lot of the research that’s gone into all the apps that are out there but I do know that most people that make an app, it’s to generate income and money and contacts and obviously it’s a clever way for an attorney to gain more business,” says Cerro Gordo County Sheriff Kevin Pals.

There is a disclaimer when you open the app that says in part that the information from the app is not intended to be legal advice.
